PATIENT NOTICE - BOOKING APPOINTMENTS FROM 12TH DECEMBER 2016
Starting from 12th December 2016 the receptionists will be asking each patient a couple of questions regarding the appointment you are wishing to book. These questions have been set and approved by our GP's to enable you to be seen by the post appropriate clinician within the best timescale.
You can be assured that all communication is dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
Our aim is to help support you and deal with your enquiry in an efficient timely manner.
BERRYCOMBE CAR PARK RE-OPENS TO PATIENTS AND VISITORS TO CARNEWATER PRACTICE
The Council has agreed to make Berrycombe Car Park available to patients and visitors to Carnewater Practice between the hours of 8.00am to 18.00pm. The car park signs will change to permit holders only from 18.00pm to 8.00am.
RETIREMENT OF DR HIGNELL
As many of you will know, Dr Hignell is retiring from Carnewater Practice at the end of March. I am sure you will join with us in wishing him and happy, healthy and very long retirement.
We are very pleased to announce that Dr Dale Staff is joining the practice from Monday 20th February. Dr Staff is an experienced GP and he is looking forward to getting to know the practice and its patients. He will be working on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Welcome Dr Staff!
New Staff Member Joins the Team
We are delighted to welcome GEORGE KEMPNY to the team. George is a very experienced Pharmacist, and is joining the team to help deal with medication queries and reviews. He will be speaking to and seeing patients to deal with their queries and helping the GPs with reviews. We are sure he will be great addition to the Carnewater Team - Welcome George!
MAJOR ROADWORKS IN BODMIN
There are major roadworks in Bodmin which are expected to last at least 11 months. The works will include road closures, and diversions which will change regularly.

Carnewater Practice has recently been inspected by CQC, and we are pleased to announce that we have been rated as "GOOD" across the board. If you'd like to read the findings of the inspection team then please see the link below.
NHS 111 launched in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly on 4 February 2014. The easy to remember number replaces NHS Direct’s 0845 4647 service and should be called if the surgery is closed and if medical help is needed fast but it's not a 999 emergency. The service will be provided by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), which already runs the 111 service in Devon, Dorset and Somerset. If you need medical advice then please call 111.
Calls to the NHS 111 service are free from both landlines and mobile phones with a contract. (Pay as you go mobiles do have to have at least 1p credit to get through to 111)

Appointments are available from 8.10 am to 6pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We also offer appointments on alternate Saturday mornings - this wide range of appointment times gives our patients the opportunity to come to the surgery at a time to suit.
Here at Carnewater Practice, we offer a wide range of appointments at times to suit you and your family. We do our best to accommodate your requirements where we are able. If you need to see someone urgently you will always be able to, although it may not be your usual doctor or nurse. We offer a mix of appointments, some of which can be booked on the day, and some which can be booked ahead thereby offering a wide choice to help to cater for all our paitents’ needs.
Same day appointments can be booked by telephone or in person from 8am each day. You can also book an appointment up to a week ahead or more if your doctor has requested this, enabling you to organise your diary to suit you. You can also book appointments on a Saturday morning if you find it impossible to attend during normal surgery hours—please ask one of our receptionists for more information, or book on line. The surgery is open from 8.00am to 6pm on weekdays with the exception of Mondays when we close from 1-2.30pm. We offer a range of appointment times throughout the day from 8.10am to 6pm including over lunchtime. We also offer appointments at Bodmin on Saturday mornings for patients who are unable to attend at other times; appointments for these extended hours are available to book on line as well as by telephone. Please note there is no on site parking—There is a public car park on Berrycombe Road, and there is a lay-by at the front of the building which allows level access to the surgery. For Blue Badge holders there are 2 spaces in the car park attached to the building, and access to the surgery is via a lift.

Appointments can be booked on the day or a week ahead with the clinician of your choice if this is possible.
If your appointment request is urgent and there are no longer appointments available that day please say so and we can arrange to have our duty doctor call you back.
There are a few housebound patients who cannot get to the surgery and for whom we can offer home consultations. If you request a home visit a doctor will telephone you to assess your need and to determine whether your request can possibly be dealt with in another way. Where possible we prefer to see our patients at the surgery as consultations at the surgery are more effective. Visits are time consuming, prevent a doctor being available for emergencies and the doctor may be unable to examine the patient properly at home.
Visits are difficult to fit in during a doctors busy working day so please, if you think a visit is necessary, please telephone as early as possible, preferably before 10am. A doctor will phone you back to discuss your request.

We offer additional appointments, outside our usual opening hours in order to improve access for those of our patients who have commitments during the normal working day which prevent them from being able to attend routine appointments. We try to ensure that these appointments are only used by those people who really can’t come in at any other time, and we would ask for your co-operation in this—If you can get in during our normal opening time please leave the weekend appointments for those who cannot.

The surgery switchboard is closed on weekdays between 1830pm and 0800am, at weekends and on bank holidays.
You can access GP care when we are closed if you have an urgent medical problem that cannot wait until we are next open. Please telephone NHS111 on 111 - simply dial 3 ones. If you need to be seen by a GP you will either be given an appointment with the Out of Hours GP service, or if you are too ill a GP from the service will visit you.
Please DO NOT go to A&E unless you have had a significant accident or your health concern is a genuine emergency.
There is a minor injuries unit a Bodmin Hospital for less serious injuries.
Please remember that the out of hours service is for urgent medical problems that cannot wait until the next day. All calls are recorded. If you have a dental emergency please contact the Dental Helpline number below.
If the patient is seriously ill or unconcious then please call 999 - all calls to 999 are recorded and traced .
