Clinics and Services
We offer a wide range of services and clinics for our patients and these are outlined below:
If you have a lump or bump that your doctor agrees requires removal we are able to offer this service at the practice. Please discuss with your doctor.
We offer a full and wide range of services, from the pill, to long acting contraception such as implants and coils. Please ask your doctor for advice. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraception review, please use our online form.
We hold clinics for child health and immunisations to which your child will be invited. Please ask at reception for more details.
Free NHS Health Checks
If you are aged between 40 and 75 you are entitled to a free NHS Health Check.
Tests and health checks
We offer appointments for blood tests every day, and undertake health checks for all newly registered patients. We also offer health checks for patients who have reached the age of 75 and have not been seen by a doctor for more than a year, or any adult over 16 years who has not been seen for 3 years. These appointments are usually with our Healthcare Assistants.
Clinics at Carnewater
In addition to the usual doctor and nurse surgeries we offer clinics for:
- Stopping smoking – If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a smoking review, please use our online form
- Minor operations
- Coil and implant fitting
- Child health clinics and immunisations
- Antenatal care (offered by our midwife)
- Travel advice and vaccination

Both the nurses and the doctors are keen to offer lifestyle advice on issues such as stopping smoking, diet and weight advice, exercise, alcohol and drugs advice, and contraception. Please make an appointment with your doctor or nurse if you feel you need to come to one of our clinics.
If you are travelling abroad please make sure you contact us in plenty of time (At least 6 weeks) to arrange any vaccinations that may be necessary. To help the Travel Nurses assess your travel needs it is important that they are in receipt of the assessment form before your appointment.
A second appointment will be required with the practice nurse (at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work) to actually receive the vaccinations.

Health Management Clinics
For those patients who have long term conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or heart problems, we offer clinics with our highly trained nurses to monitor and review these conditions.
You will be given a physical review and be able to discuss your condition and any concerns you may have. Our reception team will be able to advise you when the clinics for your condition are being held. We also have a specialist diabetes nurse who comes to the surgery to provide clinics
- Blood taking clinics (Phlebotomy)
- ECGs (heart tracings)
- 24 hour Blood Pressure Monitoring – If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a blood pressure review, please use our online form

We have regular input from a local counselling service, Outlook Southwest. Their counsellors see patients in the practice building.
Appointments are made following referral by your doctor. We are also able to offer weekly alcohol and drug addiction support. Please speak to your doctor or nurse if you would like help regarding these issues.
We have a Social prescriber based at our practice to see patients who require help with non-medical related issues. These can be benefits, employment, social activity and well-being related. Please ask at the surgery or visit the Social prescriber section of our web page for more information.
We are happy to see and treat patients under 16 without their parents’ permission if we are satisfied they are able to understand the consequences. This practice believes everyone has the right to privacy, whatever their age.
Only in exceptional circumstances, such as if someone is in physical danger, would we possibly pass on information to a third party, and then, only after discussion with the patient.
We are also able to offer services such as:
- Medicals for insurance purposes
- Employment purposes (eg HGV or taxi drivers)
- Completion of other forms and letters which, while not part of your routine health care, we are pleased to provide.
These services, which are not part of general medical services, are subject to a fee being charged. Please ask at reception for detail of our fees and charges.
