Lewannick branch surgery has been closed since March 2020 for clinical consultations due to COVID-19. This is because the surgery is not large enough to ensure social distancing to help keep staff and patients safe.
The surgery is based in a small cottage attached to a pub. There is:
- 1 consultation room
- a small waiting room
- a small dispensary
- limited access for people with mobility issues, or parents with children in a buggy
- no car parking on site and the pub car park cannot be used by patients
The NHS does not own the building and is restricted in how it could be adapted to make it suitable for people to use, such as increasing the size of the waiting and consulting rooms and installing ramps.
The surgery has submitted an application to NHS Kernow, which plans and pays for primary care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, to permanently close the branch surgery in Lewannick.
The surgery is exploring the possibility of opening a new premises within Bowden Derra Park, with access from Polyphant Green, which is 2 miles from the Lewannick branch surgery. There is parking at the proposed site. We are sharing this information with you as we feel it is important for you to know that extra options are being explored, even though this proposal has not been approved.
